I want this new year to be different than last for sure. While I had many amazing things take place in 2017, I want to shift my focus from my personal life to my creative life. At the end of 2016, I took on making a life sized fully swimmable mermaid tail. I learned many new things just from trying something new. Since I received tons of requests to open up commissions, I finally caved in and opened up one commission slot. Within no time, someone bought a tail from me.
I’m so very thankful that someone has put their faith in my artwork to make them something amazing. I’m very excited for this new journey and I hope it takes me to many amazing places. I won’t lie, I’m pretty nervous. So many things could go wrong with this but I have to stay positive and know that I can do anything as long as I put my mind to it. I’ve proven that many times before. So this was a nice new thing to take into this new year.
I also worked on a lot of stuff last year with a gallery in Orlando. I thought it was a crazy idea but I really put myself out there for this group exhibition and it’s come together beautifully. I was able to gather amazing artists from all over America, Canada, and many other places across seas like Australia and South Africa.
I wanted to put together a show of artists that are experienced and inexperienced in gallery showing. I wanted to give people the opportunity to show their work in a non judgmental environment where any questions could be asked and all of them be given detailed answers. Most galleries are pretty straightforward and all ask for the same simple things. It’s all about following directions really.
With this show, I wanted to give newer to the gallery scene artists lots of breathing room when dealing with each part of the process. In doing this, I’m giving them an opportunity to get their feet wet and to see what it’s really like. I must admit, I’m spoiling them to a certain degree… most places won’t work with you as much I have with them and they don’t always include certain things like I am.
I want this show to feel like it’s theirs and not just like they’re only apart of it but that they are the center of it as well. Without each person in this show, there would be no show so each person counts. I’m very excited and I can’t wait for it all to come to life. I’m working very hard on it and I hope that I will be able to make them happy and proud of their work and accomplishments, too.
Right now, these are the two things I’m focused on: mermaid life and gallery life. I couldn’t ask for anything better. Thank you all for contributing in keeping my mind busy for when my mind has room to run, my thoughts turn dark real quick.
